Love at the fair

Spin, spin, spinning. Fine, just once. I’m not even that scared anyway. Bright lights, sickly sweet flavour to brush off earlier this evening. Shoes off, feel the breeze better, more for your money that way. Her. This song keeps playing. “…makes me high.” Staring at me. I’m staring. Stares that last 0.001 of a second. Smiling, I’m smiling back. “…I don’t wanna get off this ride”. A game.

Hold your head still, it’s not enough, the force is too great. You’re battling physics. She wizzes past and I try and hold her stare for as long as possible. Then she goes. Disappears. She reappears, still smiling. We’re going too fast, dramatised for fun. Stick your tongue out, she’s doing the same. She’s copying me. I think she likes you. Is this a future love? Or a present love? A wife? Marriage, I could do that.

It’s over. Goodbye. Put your shoes back on. She’s gone. The crowd was too busy.
